Ms Brady

  • New committee was chosen and introduced.
  • A copy of the action plan was given to each member and read through together highlighting this year’s targets.
  • It was decided that a walk will take place at the end of September and also during our action week at the October.
  • Group Work: Children were divided into groups of three and assigned a topic to brainstorm
    • Class project titles
    • Spring clean ideas
    • Carpooling
    • Action week ideas
    • Curricular ideas linked to transport
    • Checklist for each of the flags (clipboard for each room) and jobs to be assigned.

  • RSA Visit on the 16th of October. A representative will visit the school and call to each class.
  • Class check that each class
    • Got the newsletter last month
    • That the newsletter was read out in each class
    • News was communicated with the Junior classes
    • Checklists in each room are being used
  • Action Week Preparation
    • Class idea list sent to each room
    • School Walk
    • Dress up day
    • Who wants to be a millionaire
    • Carpool Sign
    • Flyer Competition
    • Individual Class projects (see green school action plan activity sheet)
  • Brainstorm extra ideas in class. Next meeting will be decided after the Action week

 

Action Week Ideas

  • Class projects
    • Each class will be given a transport themed project to complete. These can be presented on A1 coloured card. (available in the art room) Projects will be displayed on the staff room window.
  • Safe Cross code
    • Each class will learn the safe cross code song ( can be used in the St Patrick’s Day parade). It can be performed at assembly during action week.
  • Curricular Ideas-transport theme.
    • English
      • Transport poems/stories
      • Read newspaper articles on raods accidents and the dangers on the roads
    • Irish
      • Safe cross code as Gaeilge.
    • Maths
      • Graphs
      • Transport problem solving (km p/h)
      • Road safety crack the code worksheets
      • Looking at number plates of cars
    • SESE
      • The first car
      • Ireland’s Road and rail networks
      • How a car works
      • Hydro cars and other advancements in renewable fuels.
      • Ireland before cars were introduced-different modes of transport
      • Car registrations in Ireland and the wider world
    • SPHE
      • Road safety
      • Rules of the road for car users

      • Safe cross code

      • Road safety posters
      • Classroom posters for compost bin, recycling reminders and water and electricity conservation.

  • Review of the Action Week from each class.
  • Congratulations and well done to the effort by all teachers and students for such a successful action week.
  • Thanks to Sean Hartigan for visiting the school.
  • Issue with hole in the recycled rain water butt. Speak to Donie and ask him to fix it.

  • Big Travel Challenge Brainstorm
    • Large signs at the front of the school (6th class and Ms Brady)

  • 6th class committee will organise collecting the data on Day 1,7 and 15. (Informal meetings on results each week)
  • School walk planned on Day 15. Notification will be sent via the homework diary re walk.
