4th Class Boys Reach Semi Finals of Tipperary Futsal Competition

On Tuesday 3rd December the boys in 4th class took part in the annual FAI Tipperary Futsal Competition. Futsal is the official indoor soccer of FIFA. It was held in ‘The  Dome’ in Thurles.

Competition, as always, was fierce and the standard of all the teams taking place was very high. Moycarkey was drawn in a group with defending champions Templemore, Nenagh B and Kilsheelan.

Our first game, against Templemore, got off to a very rocky start and the lads soon found themselves 2-0 down! However they never gave up and believed in themselves and fought back to eventually win 4-2. The second game, against Kilsheelan, was another close affair and yet again the lads had to battle back from being behind twice to finish the game 2-2. This result meant that all that was needed was a draw in their last game against Nenagh B to reach the final. Yet again a slow start saw the boys in red and yellow a goal down early on but they soon took control and lead comfortably 3-1 soon after. Nenagh scored a consolation goal to finish the game 3-2.

The semi final was a much tougher challenge however as they faced a very strong and skillful Gaelscoil Durlas. The lads did well to come back from a 1-0 deficit but in the end the Gaelscoil were just too good and ran out comfortable winners. The strength of that Gaelscoil team was shown in the final when they went on to win the competition overall.

The lads did themselves and their school proud and showed great determination and sportsmanship throughout the competition and showed enough potential to put a good warning out there for future years!
